Welcome to Sohie and her family who began school in Matai this week.
We went to visit the Life Education bus and met Harold the giraffe! He taught us about being friends all together and about being bucket 'fillers' and not being bucket 'dippers'. Ask your child what those are!

Theo and Zoe transferring pollen to the honeycomb.
A group building houses (like bees do) but out of Lego.
Reading books about bees, and recording what they now know about bees.
Izzy drawing a bee to scale. Karolis, Tyler and Flynn proudly showing their house they built together (using cooperative language).
Making bees and a hive was a lot of fun, and quite an involved process. First students coloured with black and white crayon on their bee before using yellow dye. Glitter was added to the wings. When dry, each bee was cut out then strategically placed around a hive. Can you see 'pollen' under the wax covering. This will be turned into honey!
You're welcome to visit Matai and see our hive yourself :)
