Week 10, Term 2

Hoani started school this week. Welcome to you and your family!

As we approach the end of the term there are a lot of bugs and illnesses floating around, so we are talking about blowing noses and washing properly to keep ourselves and others healthy. The frosty weather has led to some great writing in Mrs Polaschek's writing group this week. We had a go at writing smilies! "The frost is as cold as Elsa's  magic". Here are some children drawing a plan and contemplating their writing goals. We are working on things like hearing all the sounds in a word, and adding interesting detail to our stories.

Amber is practising some spelling words with magnetic letters.

Scouting bees can carry half their weight when they return to the nest with nectar (sugars) and pollen (protein). They fly from the new food source site to their hive 12 times.

We weighed students.  After loading a backpack to half of their weight, students had a turn to walk a short distance.  This looked easy, and first thoughts were that it would be but the students quickly found out just how difficult it was!

Reflecting on this rich experience students said the following...

That afternoon before a special assembly celebrating our wonderful bus driver Pete's 45 year service to driving buses and transporting 3 generations of Gemma's family, Senior Constable Haines brought his weighing scales to show us.  He weighs trucks to make sure they're within their limit, checks their load is secure, checks their license and log book.

As part of learning about speaking and listening, we prepared questions to ask Constable Haines.  We learnt a lot about his job and enjoyed using his scales...6 students were the same weight as Mrs Polaschek and Mrs Ralph!!!

Olivia and Tyler are super strong!!!
